Conference Summary
For 11 years, this conference has explored the latest findings in the field of ion channel physiology and biophysics. This year’s main themes will focus on ion channel structure, function, regulation, and dynamics in tissues and cells, and computational modeling of ion channels.
This conference is especially aimed at scientific and professional development. Early-career researchers and those from historically excluded groups are especially encouraged to attend.
Goals and Takeaways
Attendees will learn about:
· How new methods in ion channel biophysics bring new insight into the physiology of excitable cells
· New roles for ion channels in determining neural, cardiac, pancreatic and chondrocyte electrophysiology
· Ion channel-based approaches to treat pain, arrhythmia, epilepsy, joint disease and other excitability disorders
Program Topics
· Regulation of ion channels
· Sensory ion channels
· Ion channels in neurology
· Ion channels in striated muscle
· Computational modeling of ion channels
· Ion channels in smooth muscle
· Organellar ion channels
· Channelopathies
· Ion channel synthesis and trafficking
· Structural biology of ion channels
Workshops
A Meet the Expert lunch session for early-career researchers will be featured. The program will facilitate interaction between research professionals at all levels including deans, department chairs, faculty members, lab directors, scientific journal editors, graduate program advisors, and biotech and pharma industry representatives. Topics include career pathways, grant funding, publishing, navigating academia, and science advocacy.
A Career Development Workshop will focus on developing a personal research brand. As an often-overlooked area of the field, a research brand can improve the dissemination of research to the general public and raise awareness of your work with media organizations and other researchers.
