Conference Summary
The first scientific conference on this specific topic will bring together scientists from varied backgrounds to advance the understanding of protein arginine methylation within biological functions and disease contexts. This conference will be relevant to researchers investigating the fundamental biochemistry and structural biology of PRMTs as well as those exploring the role of arginine methylation in development, immunology, cancer, neurodegeneration, and other diseases.
This year’s inaugural program will bridge the basic and translational disciplines by highlighting how molecular discoveries are being leveraged to develop PRMT inhibitors and novel therapeutic strategies. Recent breakthroughs in PRMT therapeutics development have led to interest in fully exploring the utility and therapeutic potential of PRMT5 and PRMT1 inhibitors in various human cancers. Presentations will also include the development of emerging tools and technologies to study arginine methylation.
Attendees will learn about:
· Cutting-edge research on the biological functions and disease associations of protein arginine methylation.
· How to apply emerging technologies and tools to study PRMT function.
· Strategies for translating basic PRMT research into therapeutic applications, including drug development.
Program Topics
· Mechanism and biology of arginine methylation
· PRMT chemical and structural biology
· Arginine methylation in epigenetics, cancer, development, and immunology
· Therapeutics targeting arginine methylation
· New advances in technology to study arginine methylation
Workshops
A Meet the Expert workshop series covering current and relevant topics affecting researchers in the field of arginine methylation will be held. These will include issues related to women and underrepresented groups in science, as well as challenges surrounding work-life balance. A panel of experts will also address specialized topics in the field of arginine methylation.
The Career Development Workshop will focus separate career paths, including academic, industry, and principal investigator roles. The workshops will feature both appeal-format and small group discussion on topics related to scientific and career advice.
